HAPPY LABOR DAY!!
Don't have a lot of time and just want to get to the good stuff?
-If you're looking for something spiritual, look at The Good and The Spiritual Thought
-If you're looking for some action and grossness, skip to The Ugly
THE GOOD- We had a really good lesson woth our friend Rose, she's says we always bring the rain which is so cute. Lots of rain this week and it wasn't hot for a change! President John says tracting doesn't work very well in small towns (which is true, this lady came up to us this week and said we couldn't solicite anything in her neighborhood. Yeah, people don't like us just randomly coming to their door) anyway, because of that, we've been getting creative. Visiting members, taking walks at different parks, Facebooking. All very exciting stuff.
THE BASH- You know, God works in mysterious ways. For some reason we felt prompted to visit this one guy that missionaries were never able to get in contact with. We found him and guess what? He hadn't lived in Azle since 2019 and he was only here for a week and somehow we caught him right before he was heading home. You would think this would be an amazing miracle, and maybe down the road it will be, but this guy actually thought that this was a divine meeting for him to tell US whats up. So yeah he kept trying to tell us that we were so young and just really immature in our religious journey. He kept saying that the 4 gospels was all we needed and that was it, no need for a Book of Mormon, and yet he'd never read it and didn't even know what it was about. We were as polite as possible and didn't keep it going. We bore our testimonies and left because thats about all he'd listen to.
THIS UGLY- We texted a lady that missionaries had previously helped take leaves. We asked if we could help with anything and she said she would appreciate someone coming and doing her dishes and putting in some laundry. Seemed easy enough so we figure it will only take a few minutes and we'll just wear our proselyting clothes. Big mistake. We get there and she shows us the dishes and they are a LITERAL MOUNTAIN with flies surrounding the whole thing. It took up her whole sink, her counter, and her stove, everything was covered with dishes and anything that wasn't, you could see the crumbs, cat hair, and stains covering the counter. Anyway, I get down to business on these dishes and it's so disgusting. I'm washing them with a dirty towel so it feels like I'm trying to clean dirt with dirt. It smells really bad amd the sink keeps clogging up. To my right is a bread pan with a dead cockroach, this scene will forever be etched into my brain as a horrible memory. Anyway, lots of the dishes had maggots on them. I don't mean just one or two, I mean a whole colony of maggots sometime dead, but sometimes alive. I really don't know how I got through it. We didn't even get to finish all the dishes because we were there for 3 hours!!! She asked us to put the dishes away, there were dead cockraoches in there. Anyway, she also asked me to help her woth her laundry. I put a dirty load of laundry in and bring an apparent load of clean clothes in. I dump them out of the couch and start folding them. Guess what I found in her clean clothes? 3 big quarter sized beetles. I don't know how they got there, they were dead of course but still it gave me the Heebee Jeebeez!!! We finally got out of there. That night, I started washing our own dishes and even though we only had 4 dishes in the sink, I nearly threw the scrubber and ran away. So that's my fun adventure of the week.
THE SPIRITUAL THOUGHT- My studies keep taking me to this one word, and that word is "INCONVENIENT." When people learn that the gospel is true, they have to change their lives and sometimes these changes are hard. But, the inconvenience doesn't stop there. As we live our lives as disciples of Christ, our lives continue to be inconvenient because we know there is only one way to do things and that way is through Christ. There is one way to gain happiness, one way to gain success, one way to love, and so on. As ecclesiastes 3 says, there is a season and time for everything and we must be patient. If you have time, I invite yall to listen to the talk called "Inconvenient Messiah" by Jefferey R. Holland. Why would Christ have us do things inconvenient for us? What's your take on that question?
